Meet the New Hikaru Experience: Major Firmware + App Update this July 2025!

If you have been brewing great coffee with us using our Hikaru since its release last year, we heard you and we have some exciting news for you!
It’s been a while since our last major firmware update, and our team has been busy behind the scenes. Over the past year, we’ve fine-tuned the Hikaru Brew App and packed in even more features to get the most out of your Hikaru. Our goal? To keep making your coffee experience smarter, smoother, and more convenient—whenever and wherever you brew.

Key Updates in This Release
- Improved Brew Volume Accuracy: Enhanced water control algorithm to optimize not only the total brew volume but also the precision of each individual pour.
- Simplified Weight & Water Level Calibration: Calibration is now initiated through the App. The previously separate weight and water level calibration interfaces are now merged into a single, simplified process with intuitive guidance provided by the App.

Automatic Altitude & Atmospheric Pressure Detection in APP: The APP now detects your altitude and local atmospheric pressure to automatically adjust the base brewing temperature profile on Hikaru.
- Descaling Temperature Adjustment: Descaling mode temperature has been updated from 96°C to 70°C to accommodate lower boiling points at high altitudes. Cleaning effectiveness remains unchanged, with improved operational safety.
- New “Master Recipes” & “Hiroia Recommended” Recipe Library in APP: The App now features built-in recipe collections created by champion baristas and Hiroia, allowing users to easily apply expert brewing profiles.

Recipe Editing Enhancements: A new “Duplicate” feature for recipe has been added, along with a redesigned editing menu for easier access to key settings. Customizing recipes is now faster and more intuitive.
Your Hikaru Brew APP will be automatically updated to the new version if the auto-update is enabled on your mobile phone.
Once the updated APP connects to Hikaru, the firmware upgrade will be prompted and enforced, requiring the users to upgrade the firmware.

Firmware Upgrade Installation Process
This firmware upgrade requires four (4) update cycles due to a major software architecture enhancement, aimed at simplifying the UI of certain features like the machine calibration process.
After each update, your Hikaru unit will automatically shut down. Please restart your Hikaru after it powers off. This process must be repeated four (4) times until the firmware upgrade is fully completed.
The whole upgrade cycle may take over 5 minutes, so please be patient and wait until all upgrade steps are completed. It is crucial to have a successful upgrade in order to properly brew with your Hikaru again.
Once the update is complete and the APP reconnects to your Hikaru unit, you will be prompted to complete the environment setup. This new feature in our Hikaru Brew App will detect your local atmospheric pressure and altitude in order to assign the appropriate temperature zone.
This setting will determine the system’s maximum brew temperature, the maximum recipe brew temperature, and descaling temperature.
The built-in recipe presets will also adjust automatically based on the assigned temperature zone.
